European Affairs
Overview
The European Affairs Programme started its work in 1995. It has been in charge of drafting studies, syntheses, proposals and amendments either on its own initiative, or at the request of the Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation as well as other ministries, in the context of several European negotiations. The subjects of the studies are extremely varied. They are related to institutional affairs as well as the various policies of the Union.
Since 1995, the European Affairs Programme has been associated with the negotiations preparing the Amsterdam Treaty, Agenda 2000, the Nice Treaty and the activities of the European Convention. Furthermore, based on the experience acquired in contributing to the Belgian presidency of the European Union in 2001, it intends to contribute again in many ways to the upcoming Belgian presidency of the European Union in 2010.
Research studies are published in Studia Diplomatica, in Egmont Papers or on our website, thus giving our readers access to structured information about current matters. Certain issues are also the object of conferences and seminars. Such activities are meant to initiate a discussion as broad as possible on the future of Europe.
