Central Africa
Overview
The Central Africa Programme of the EGMONT Institute is headed by Prof. Dr. Koen Vlassenroot.
The main object of this Programme is to conduct research on political, economic, social and security issues and developments relating to this region (especially Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda). This research also relates to the major trends on the African continent (African Union, Regional Integration, conflict analysis and post-conflict reconstruction) and it analyses the role and position of the EU in Sub-Sahara Africa.
Through its own research, a wide range of contacts and activities with national and international research institutes, public authorities and NGO's and the publication of proceedings, the programme plays a role in making Belgian expertise better known abroad and will contribute to strengthen research in Central African countries.
The programme also wishes to contribute to the wider (policy) debate on this region, especially at this crucial moment in its history.
